Rocky terrain is easy
The rocky terrain, which has rare and unusual plants that flourish in the short alpine summer, is easy to navigate. The paths are well signposted at major junctions with distances and estimated times. It’s easy to see the paths as the landscape is mostly untouched by humans; perfect for a walking holiday.
Forests and streams

Everywhere there is water; streams run down the mountains and cascade into waterfalls. On walking holidays you will see lakes high up on small plateaus; some are the remnants of ancient glaciers. Some are just below the glaciers that still exist.
Lower down, lush forest and shady trails cover the slopes. These lead to surprising and astonishing waterfalls and views. A small clearing will contain a small chalet, firewood stacked by the outer walls. This provides insulation and fuel for the chilly nights at altitude.
You can also try the various via Ferrata for an experience of mountain climbing without the risk. there are several here in the Oisans, of varying difficulty.
